Have You Had Heel Pain???

OMG, heel pain can be one of the most debilitating foot problems because the heel is constantly sustaining the shock and pressure of walking when our full weight gets distributed on contact with the ground.  I was lucky to find a great site, where I found some information, turns out I have plantar fasciitis.  The site also had a few clinics that could help me with physio, stretches, some at home cures and also some orthotics Ottawa, which was great because it’s so hard to find the right clinic when you have no experience with an issue like this.

I found out that most heel pain happens due to excessive weight and/or wearing shoes that are not fit for your foot’s shape and size.  My basic problem is probably my weight, which is a constant battle, and also wearing flimsy flip flops in the summer!

The heel bone is designed to absorb shock during walking and it works in tandem with the plantar fascia, which is the part of the foot, supporting the arch. As such, heel pain associated with plantar fasciitis is usually worse than other conditions, and is especially painful after long periods of sitting, or right in the morning, before the foot starts to warm up.

I learnt that stretching and warm up exercises are important to treat and help heal the pain because tightness of the muscles and tendons contribute to the overall pressure applied to the heel.

Of course keeping my weight down helps, but as many of us know that’s not always easy!  I have lost some weight and it did help.

The pain comes and goes now, but all the stuff I learnt from the clinic really helped!

Info From My Hunt For Braces

Well it turns out that one of the issues that contribute to my headaches are my teeth, so off I went researching braces and my options!  I found Invisalign Services in a convenient location for me, but I figured I would share what I learnt.

Braces are often for more than just achieving a nice straight smile. Usually if a person need some form of teeth straightening, while we can only see the crooked teeth, there is much more going on. Crooked teeth often go hand in hand with a misaligned bite, which can cause many issues from jaw problems to headaches.

So whether you are bothered by crooked teeth, you dislike not being able to floss correctly because your teeth are too close together, or are not happy with spaces between your teeth, there is a solution for you. Braces align and straighten your teeth, as well as move them into the correct position, resolving any bite issues.

If you or your children need their teeth straightened then you will need to see an Orthodontist. The Orthodontist will be able to advise you on which type of teeth straightening will work best for you, depending on the issues, the severity, and of course your budget.

Some people, especially adults, might avoid dealing with their crooked smile because they can’t imagine a mouth full of metal braces but today there are other options. Today there are different types of braces and teeth straightening techniques. Even simple traditional metal braces are much smaller today, and even have the choice of special wires, called archwires, which use the heat from your own body to help move the teeth quicker, making the whole process pass faster and less painfully. Now they even have different colored bands to make wearing braces more fun for children.

There are also ceramic braces, which are the same color as the tooth, or even clear, so they are less noticeable, even the wires can be tooth colored to help blend. While many people like invisalign braces for the exact same reason the ceramic braces do work much faster. Ceramic braces are more expensive than the old fashioned metal once, and they do need to be cared for carefully to avoid staining.

Another new type of braces, made with the idea of hiding them away, is lingual braces. These are the same material as metal braces, but they are placed on the inside of the teeth, making them invisible to the eye. The lingual braces cannot be used for very complicated or serious dental issues, and they are not available for young children. These braces are also one of the more expensive options, and the treatment might make slower progress.

Invisalign braces are not actually braces, they are custom made clear plastic aligners. They are removable and they are custom made in a series designed to be changed every few weeks, as your teeth move into the desired position.

The biggest advantage is that they are almost completely invisible, and they are removable for eating and cleaning. Invisalign is another system that while convenient, will not work for very complicated or serious dental corrections. They are also one of the more expensive options, and can often take longer than regular braces. The risk for loss is greater as well, as each time the patient eats they remove the aligners.

Most often, people go in for chiropractic treatments to treat back or neck pain. You don’t need to lose time at work or from your life for surgery by choosing this alternative method. It also provides relief from chronic pain and is considered as the best alternative to scalpel.

The importance of physiotherapy is well portrayed by the various benefits derived from the treatments. Pain from prior injuries can be alleviated through massage and exercises. Consistent therapy enhances the restoration of motion in joints and high physical coordination. People suffering from impaired mobility can benefit as well. One of the most common causes of impaired mobility is severe joint injuries. Lastly I found that the simplest idea worked best; exercise. Even walking helps relieve stress. The heart health benefits of walking are numerous and walking is essential to maintaining good heart health. If you haven’t exercised in a long time, you can start with a walk around the block and do more as you get stronger. You just have to walk as much as you can. Walking will lower your risk for cardiovascular disease.

Sadly taking up walking started giving me foot pain so I had to look for a solution for that and what I found out was quite shocking to me.

About 70 percent of the population has some degree of abnormal foot condition, so many people can benefit from wearing foot orthotics. While pricey they did the job for me so I’m a fan!

Also good quality orthotics can last for more than one year, and many can last for 5 long years. The lifespan of an orthotic insole depends on the material it’s made of and how often you use it. Hard plastic insoles are more durable than the soft ones, lasting for 3 to 5 years. Soft plastic or foam orthotics may only last for a year. Shoe inserts can last for more than three years if you are an average walker. Athletes will have to replace their inserts every year.
